FSR: Winter Series 2009

FSR - Winter Series - Imola test - Patrick de Wit

Formula-SimRacing.net (FSR) organizes a Winter Series and it starts tomorrow! The 2009 Winter Series will be using the CTDP 2006 mod with the FSR league physics. Minor aids like TC, ABS and clutch are allowed in this year’s Series.

Drivers had to sign up for one of the 26 available seats and because of the overwhelming interest there’s a 107% rule in place. If you don’t drive a fast lap on the official FSR-server or if you’re not fast enough, you will not be able to enter the Winter Series at all. Luckily Patrick is one of the confirmed drivers!

Patrick will be driving Schumacher’s Ferrari. He teams up with Mindaugas Klumbis and Orintas Stasiunas, both driving Massa’s Ferrari. The team is currently testing on the Imola track and Patrick’s fastest lap to date (1:20.400 ) should be more than enough to pre-qualify for tomorrow’s race.

F1Career: Podium in historic race!

F1Career - Paolo Bettini spins and hits Patrick

F1Career - A costly spin from Paolo Bettini

The tests already revealed a very close field and the qualification only confirmed it. Giulio Bettini was able to snatch pole position from Patrick in the end, but with different race strategies only the race would reveal the winner.

Patrick had to start from fifth position, due to the grid penalty, and had a fantastic start. Immediately he climbed to third position. but just when Patrick was making his move on Giulio Bettini and Marco Zipoli, someone hit Patrick.

In the first lap he had to start all over again and this time from tenth position. He was able to catch and overtake the field pretty quickly. Within 15 laps he was back in second position. Two seconds behind Zipoli, who took the lead from Giulio Bettini after he had made his first pitstop, and with a damaged car!

The Dutchman made his one and only pitstop in lap 23 and came back in second position, thirteen seconds behind Zipoli and in front of Giulio Bettini. However, Zipoli pitted the next lap and handed the lead back to Patrick. And although he was driving a damaged car, he was still able to extend his lead.

The win was up for grabs, but Patrick got into some serious problems when he started to overtake the backmarkers. When Paolo Bettini had spun, he sent Patrick into a wall. Patrick lost his front wing and couldn’t hold on to the lead anymore. First Giulio Bettini passed him and later Zipoli as well.

Luckily Patrick was able to finish the race and even finished third. Another good race and another podium, just not the result he had hoped for in Imola.

F1Career: Imola 1994 – qualification

In qualification Patrick had set the pace very early, but in the end it just wasn’t enough. Giulio Bettini managed to snatch pole position from Patrick by a little over a tenth. The two dueling drivers will be fighting to finish second – behind Marco Zipoli – in the drivers championship as well.

Unfortunately Patrick will not start from the front row due to his grid penalty, but he still has high hopes for the race. Although he has to start from fifth position, he still thinks he can finish on the podium in Imola!

F1Career - Imola 1994 - warmup

The race is only a couple of hours away and it looks like the drivers are gearing up for yet another thrilling race. Almost everybody has improved their laptime and the top four drivers of the championship are particularly close. Tonight strategy, guts and speed will be the deciding factors and it’s impossible to predict the winner of this historic race, which will be broadcast live!

1 Patrick de Wit The Burning Tires 1:14.303
2 Giulio Bettini Bet F1 1:14.331
3 Marco Zipoli Simtek Gp Racing 1:14.365
4 Alessandro Fiori Scuderia Magenta by EsseGP 1:14.409
5 Mauro Franceschet TT Team 1:15.365

Race control has just penalized Patrick for an action in his terrific race on Fuji (Japan). They judged that one of the many contacts, during the battle for first position between Patrick and Giulio Bettini, to be his fault. Although the fight was fierce, it was fair as well. Unfortunately only Patrick will receive – after a great act of sportsmanship – a three place grid penalty for tonight’s race!

Luckily Patrick proved already that he doesn’t need a pole position to win the race and that’s his aim again tonight. He wants a good starting position – preferably in the top ten – and with a good strategy and set-up, he wants to race for another win, especially on this historic track.
